Walk for World Peace 2024

Annual Fundraiser

Enjoy a beautiful Spring day outdoors for a good cause!

Our Founder, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, said, ‘Without inner peace, outer peace is impossible.’ On Sunday, May 5th, 2024, Kadampa Meditation Centre Canada is leading its “Walk for World Peace” to promote world peace through inner peace. We will be fundraising together, starting with an inspirational talk about the International Temples Project, followed by a walk around Toronto Island Park. A commemorative T-shirt, a beautiful design printed on a soft-style material, will be available for purchase. Make a day out of it - bring your family, friends... and your dog! Everyone is welcome to participate.

Our volunteers will be on site to welcome you, give you a tour of the building, a free guided meditation and answer your questions. Everyone is welcome. We are so looking forward to seeing you!

Begin with a 10 min free guided meditation in the meditation hall and then join a tour around the rooms that will explain the history of the building, the significance of the Buddhist symbols, as well as access to areas not normally open to the public (i.e. Teacher's prep room, ritual prep room, upstairs mezzanine, Tharpa Publications shipping room.)

Discover displays of various aspects of community activities, including the sound of mantras, offerings and traditional Buddhist rituals, the bookstore and gift shop, information about Kadampa Buddhism and the International Temple's Project, and join us for complimentary refreshments.

Kadampa Meditation Centre Canada is an urban Buddhist Temple.  Formerly a church, built in 1902, the building was renovated in 2005 and transformed into a Buddhist Temple with a large meditation hall, a smaller meditation room upstairs (mezzanine), a community lounge, a gift and book shop and also a book and artwork publishing company: Tharpa Publications Canada. The large meditation hall can host about 180 people for meditation classes and retreats.

The hall contains a huge stunning shrine with 16 beautiful Buddha statues, including an 8-foot-tall statue of Buddha Shakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism in this world. This shrine has been newly resurfaced in 2019 for a lighter and modern look. There are also two 15-ft book cabinets containing the Kangyur and Tengyur, two series of sacred texts of the original teachings of Buddha and their commentaries, installed in 2019.

International Festivals Presentation

Special event on New Kadampa Tradition Day

The first Saturday in April is set aside to commemorate the founding of NKT-IKBU by Venerable Geshe Kelsang in 1991. The occasion is marked by special events and by pujas and dedications at Kadampa Centres worldwide. Prayers are made for the flourishing of Kadam Dharma throughout the world so that all living beings might quickly find permanent inner peace. Above all, we remember the extraordinary kindness of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche in founding NKT-IKBU.

This year in particular, we are organizing a special event to emphasize the importance of the 3 NKT-IKBU International Festivals. Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche inaugurated the annual International Kadampa Festivals to provide the international community with an opportunity to gather three times a year. He explained that these gatherings are essential for the growth and development of the International Kadampa Buddhist Union.

Join us on NKT Day for a special video, some inspiring talks, a session of Q&As and the opportunity to find or offer your services as a travel buddy. We will be concluding this special day with Offering to the Spiritual Guide Prayers. Everyone is welcome!
