Half-day Course ~ Design Your Life
Design Your Life
Happiness, Success & the Law of Karma
Half-day Course with Gen Kelsang Chodor
Why are some people naturally happy and successful, while others experience problems and obstacles? Why is it that when we get what we want, we often fail to derive satisfaction from having it? Why are contentment and good fortune elusive, while difficulties arise effortlessly? How can we change this situation?
In this half-day course, we will look at how our actions lead to our experiences of happiness or suffering. Through understanding and practising these profound teachings, we can learn to design our future experiences. We can create conditions for future happiness and spiritual progress, which is the true meaning of human life.
This course is a perfect introduction for the Guru Yoga & Mandala Offering Retreat that follows, from Sunday, June 23 in the morning, to Thursday, June 27 lunchtime. By engaging in this in-depth Buddhist practice where we imagine offering the entire universe visualized as a Pure Land, we can accumulate a vast amount of positive karma or merit. Bookings for this retreat are made separately.

Half-day Course ~ Letting Go of the Past
Letting Go of the Past
How to Deal with Loss and Change
Half-day Course with Gen Kelsang Chodor
Losing the people and things we love and dealing with unwanted changes in our lives are experiences that we often find deeply painful. Although we long to find lasting happiness, comfort and security in other people, places and things, the truth is that none of these relationships, locales, objects or experiences will last forever.
In this half-day course, we will explore Buddha's teachings on gross and subtle impermanence. Even a glimpse of insight into these profound teachings will bring a relief and a letting go of our usual grasping at what we consider to be our usual painful situation.
This wisdom will help us to deal with the inevitable winds of change and loss in our lives. Eventually, we will be able to remain calm, happy and positive at all times, embracing every moment of our lives joyfully and being of great benefit to others.

Half-day Course ~ Finding Real Refuge
Finding Real Refuge
Coming under the Umbrella of Buddhism
Half-day Course with Gen Kelsang Chodor
We usually try to find stability and protection from unpleasant feelings by surrounding ourselves with people and things that make us feel safe, happy and comfortable. Unfortunately, people and things eventually let us down. They are impermanent and do not have the power to provide what we really want in our heart of hearts: permanent freedom and protection from all suffering and problems.
In this half-day course, we will look at how only the Three Jewels - Buddha, Dharma and Sangha - are truly reliable objects of refuge, possessing the power to protect us permanently from all the sufferings of this life and our countless future lives. Through the practice of going for refuge, we will be able to enter into Buddhism, gradually developing a stable sense of peace, joy and freedom within our hearts. This unchangeable mind will then give us the strength to make authentic spiritual progress.

Half-day Course ~ Free Your Mind
Free Your Mind
A Life Beyond Anxiety, Worries & Stress
Half-day Course with Gen Kelsang Chodor
Anxiety and stress are endemic in our busy, fast-paced life. We tend to think that situations or people in our life are the causes of our stress and unhappiness. Consequently, we waste our time and deplete our mental energy by trying to figure out how to ‘fix’ those situations or people. This usually creates even more mental busyness and stress.
Buddha taught that all our worries, anxiety and stress comes from within our own mind. More specifically, they come from our unrealistic expectations and our exaggerated views of ourself, the people around us and the world in general. By learning to identify the actual causes of our unpleasant feelings and emotions, we can begin to understand how to free our mind from them.
In this half-day course, we will look at how meditation can eliminate stress and help us to be more relaxed, peaceful and positive in our daily life. We will train in powerful stress-busting techniques derived from ancient Buddhist wisdom, and learn to face life’s adversities with a happy, peaceful heart.

Half-day Course ~ Finding Inner Strength
Finding Inner Strength
Overcoming Procrastination & Lack of Mental Energy
Half-day Course with Gen Kelsang Chodor
“ I will conquer all obstacles and none shall conquer me, thus I who will become a conqueror, will practice with self confidence. ” - Shantideva
Even after we’ve learned how to meditate and have developed a strong wish to practise, we frequently experience obstacles that make regular practice difficult. And, despite receiving advice on integrating Buddha’s teachings into our daily life, we still feel that we have neither the time nor the mental energy to practise. We miss a day or two, become discouraged and sometimes give up completely. Or we practise sporadically, which also impedes our spiritual growth.
Buddha described this as a form of spiritual laziness. There are three types of laziness that block our spiritual progress: the laziness of procrastination, the laziness of following distractions, and the laziness of discouragement. In this half-day course, we will look at methods to overcome these three inner obstacles and how to develop a mind of joyful effort.

Half-Day Course ~ The Wheel of Life
The Wheel of Life
Understanding the Cycle of Samsara
The Wheel of Life was a diagram drawn by Buddha and teaches the complete path to enlightenment as well as detailing the six realms of existence. Included within it are Buddha’s teachings on The Four Noble Truths, telling us what we should know, what we should abandon, what we should practise and what you should attain as well as the twelve-dependent-related links that reveal the inner mechanism that perpetuates a life of suffering.
This course will give a practical and contemplative tour of the Wheel of Life and show how we can use this diagram to inspire our meditations and guide us along the spiritual path.

Special Course ~ Self-Love, Self-Care…
Self-Love, Self-Care, Self-Confidence, Self-Respect: A Buddhist Perspective
Special Course with Gen Kelsang Chodor
Self-criticism and self-loathing make us miserable, sabotaging our ability to grow into the person we wish to be. Superficial affirmations are not enough to help us abandon these negative minds. They will continue to obscure our true nature and undermine any personal development until we address them directly.
In this half-day course, we will look at how we tend to base our confidence on deluded, distorted and exaggerated views of ourself and others, which actually leads to low self-esteem, self-criticism and a lack of self-respect.
Once we develop genuine self-confidence rooted in reality and an awareness of our limitless potential, we will naturally develop more authentic self-love, self-care, and self-respect. We will become more gentle with ourselves and others and we will be able to grow spiritually and develop into the happy, wise and compassionate person we long to be.

Special Course ~ Declutter Your Mind
Declutter Your Mind
How to Stop Overthinking & Live in the Moment
Special Course with Gen Kelsang Chodor
Every so often, we need to declutter. We usually feel great satisfaction when our kitchen, office, garage or bedroom is clean and tidy. But what about our mind?
Buddha taught that our mind is always moving, flitting from thought to thought without control. These fleeting thoughts might seem harmless, but our unstable attention makes our inner world cluttered and unpeaceful. This makes it almost impossible to live fully in the moment. While we all need to reflect, understand and make decisions, sometimes we can end up overthinking. Our thoughts become circular, repetitive, negative, unclear or stuck. We find it hard to ‘switch off’ which is both exhausting and unproductive.
Certain meditations and ways of thinking derived from Buddha’s teachings can help us balance our mind, think more clearly and create a sense of calm as we navigate our world with all its stress and stimulation. By decluttering our mind of repetitive or unwanted thoughts, we will be able to embrace the present wholeheartedly and live a much happier life.

Special Course ~ Silencing the Inner Critic
Silencing the Inner Critic
How to Overcome Negative Self-Talk
Special Course with Gen Kelsang Chodor
Many of us have a tendency to be our own worst critic, which leads to low self-esteem and a negative self-perception. We start to believe we are not good enough, comparing ourself to others in distorted ways. As a result of these debilitating thoughts, we become insecure, feeling inadequate, judged and even rejected at times.
This negative self-criticism serves no useful purpose. It undermines our relationships, our work, and our ability to realize our full potential. Why not learn how to feel better about yourself!
In this half-day course, we will learn how to use Buddha’s teachings and meditations to let go of self-critical thoughts and the negative feelings they produce. By putting these teachings into practice, we will develop the ability to recognize, reduce and finally eliminate this inner critic, and begin to experience inner peace, self-acceptance and mental freedom.

How to Live a Spiritual Life (Course)
How to Live a Spiritual Life
Following the Buddhist Path of Going for Refuge
Half-Day Course with Gen Kelsang Thekchen
Living a spiritual life means solving our problems and finding happiness from within. To do this, we need to develop and maintain an experience of inner peace through spiritual practice – recognizing, reducing and eventually abandoning our negative disturbed states of mind and increasing our positive peaceful states. These positive, peaceful states of mind such as love, compassion and wisdom are our inner refuge.
In order to develop these spiritual realizations, Buddhists go for refuge to the Three Jewels: Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. We first go for refuge to Buddha, a fully Enlightened being who teaches us how to train and inspire our mind. Dharma refers to Buddha’s teachings and the resultant inner spiritual realizations. Sangha are our spiritual friends who encourage us and show a good example for us to follow. This half-day course will explore these three sources of refuge, Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. By going for refuge to the Three Jewels, we will live a profound spiritual life.
This half-day course is introducing the annual refuge retreat happening from June 25th to 28th. Even though this retreat is part of the commitments of the Teacher Training Programme, it is suitable for everyone! Click here for more information on this retreat.

The Inner Wealth of Contentment
The Inner Wealth of Contentment
Enjoying life without craving
Half-Day Course with Gen Kelsang Thekchen
In our search for happiness, we often waste our time and energy changing our job, partner, home, situation, and trying many different things in hopes of finding contentment. However, we will never know real satisfaction until we change our restless, discontented mind.
On this half day course, Gen Thekchen will show us how to develop the lost art of contentment through Buddhist meditation, enabling us to find true inner peace. When our mind is free from distraction and cravings, we can experience its natural stillness, allowing us to enjoy every moment of our life, regardless of the external situation.

Dealing with Difficult People
Transforming our Relationships with Loving-Kindness
Half-Day Course
Interacting with people is such a big part of our lives. So often our priorities differ, our opinions clash, conflicts can build and we can feel like the other person is the cause of our stress and misery.
Buddha explains some clear methods for taking control of our feelings, realizing that we can change our relationships with others by changing the way we view them. We will explore some powerful meditations to enable us to respond to more effectively to ‘difficult’ people. Practising and becoming familiar with these meditations provides us with the freedom to be at peace regardless of how others behave.
